Itinerary – Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu 2 Days

Start Time: 7:30 AM

  • Pisac: Begin with a visit to the Pisac Archaeological Site, famous for its terraces, Inca tunnel, and a vast cemetery of over 2,000 tombs. Spend about 2 hours exploring. Then, visit the colorful Pisac market for 20 minutes.
  • Moray: Discover the “Greenhouse of the Incas,” a unique terraced basin with varied microclimates used for crop experimentation.
  • Maras Salt Mines: Observe thousands of pre-Inca salt pans, still producing salt through evaporation, including rare pink salt.
  • Ollantaytambo: Tour the well-preserved Inca village and its massive Sun Temple atop the terraces. Learn about its strategic importance during the Spanish conquest.

Evening:

  • Train to Aguas Calientes: Depart Ollantaytambo at 7:04 PM, arriving in Aguas Calientes at 8:45 PM. Spend the night at your hotel.

Morning:

  • After an early breakfast, take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu to witness a stunning sunrise. Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour, covering the agricultural, residential, and religious sectors of the citadel.
  • Optional hikes (with advance booking):
    • Huayna Picchu Mountain (without guide).
    • Sun Gate and Inca Bridge ($55 per person, available from June 1, 2024).

Afternoon:

  • Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included).
